Retirees

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” – Anatole France

Each and every dog holds a special memory for our family, and we continue to make new memories; some of the best come from our retirees!

Retired Dams

Morgan's Point Strawberry Queen

Strawberry is Jim’s dream dog! She was our first fox red pointing lab, and it is she who helped us decide we wanted to breed! She is a highly responsive, intelligent, staunch pointing, retrieving machine and is always ready to go at a seconds notice. Strawberry has proven herself to be an excellent companion in the field as well as on her dog mat in the house with one eye raised to keep tabs on what is happening with the family, or as a companion for whoever is going for a walk jog, or ride. It was much easier for us to train her than for her to eventually train us!

Strawberry’s bloodline is what the “experts” say, full of point! Strawberry’s mother “Stosh’s Red Star”, is from a 60 year bloodline of American Pointing Labs, “Mark of Helm’s Kellogg” X ” Red Shining Starr PL Kellogg”. We have enjoyed hearing stories from her past puppy owners who always seem to comment on how easy their dogs were to train, and how intelligent their dogs act. Strawberry is AKC and UKC registered.

Libby is AKC registered.

Morgan's Point Whistling Dixie

Dixie is the perfect combination of Cowboy and Strawberry! She is so beautiful inside and out! Dixie’s a very “classy” dog who loves to hang out with you wherever you go. She is extremely athletic, has a build like her Grandmother, Rosie. She shows the hunting prowness of her father and her mother with a staunch point, intelligence, incredible nose, and a soft, easy going demeanor. She is a wonderful mother, and the sister of “Rio”, another incredible pointing lab owned by John and Shann McKeever, who’s picture can be seen in various places on our Facebook page and website.

Mighty Max's Red Dust Cowboy of Morgan's Point

Bred from a long line of field, water and family champions, Cowboy has been a true pleasure to have in our kennel!

Cowboy is a sight to behold! His bloodlines have given him the physique to run big in the field with a willingness to please his owners. He has a strong natural point with style and drive! He is the real deal with roots that go deep into the pointing lab archives. We were fortunate enough to have been able to breed his mother “Rosie” from the original “Point Doctor”, to 4 X GMPR “Mighty Max” of Bearpoint Kennel in Colorado. What we ended up with is an awesome stud of a dog that loves to retrieve on land and water, as well as a classy pointer on upland game birds! He is a quick learner and takes to training like a duck to water with a desire to pick up on new things.

OFA Excellent hips, Eyes are CERF’d, PRA/PRCD normal (by parentage) and he is EIC and CNM negative by parentage.

GMhr - WR - SR North Country's Tater Chip

Taters Bio: as told by his owner, Rick, (Tater is owned by Rick Steenhoven of North Country Retrievers)
Tater would be best described as a lazy man’s retriever, which works out very well for me. He is as low-maintenance as they come. We spent less than a dozen days training last year. He got his MHR and WR one week after his second birthday, both in the same weekend. He qualified in 14 straight NAHRA Senior tests, and 4 of 7 AKC Master Events. We do not train using an e-collar, simply because we dont need to. Tater currently has over 70 known, documented field titles in 4 generations and likely many more that we are not aware of. His grand-father is Grand Master Pointing Retriever (GMPR MHR Rik’s Risky Raider MH). He will hold a staunch point if the birds cooperate, but we have never trained for pointing or pushed that issue and have never ran him in any APLA events, but we are planning on exploring that venue in the future after his AKC MH is completed. But we dont travel far to run due to the costs involved these days, so we only run a couple local events a year. We run NAHRA (our favorite and most fun), AKC and HRC tests, and an occasional Qualifying AKC Field Trial. He desperately wants to please and just melts when I express my dissatisfaction with him. He was an only-puppy in his litter which makes it a surprise that he loves any and all animals regardless of their size, gender or species. He plays with the neighbors Yorkie just like a little puppy, and has never met an animal or person that he didn’t like. He is a true lover-boy, enjoys cuddling, and he has an always-happy disposition. He went completely through force-fetching in less than a week in just 4 sessions. Two sessions on the bench, one session on the lawn and one to a pile. And we were done. We went directly into handling drills from there. He shares my passions of hunting, fishing, boating, riding the 4-wheeler, and I recently built a trailer to pull behind my bike so he can ride behind the Harley to our Retriever Events together, and in style. He literally loves to be in the wind with me. His passions in life are equivelent to that of a 12 year old boy. He is completely at home curled up on the couch, on our bed, working row crops and CRP pheasant hunting in South Dakota, where we go every November for a couple weeks, or patiently sitting in the duck blind working Mallards. He is on open-feeding. He maintains a constant 80-85 pounds year around.

He is EIC & CNM Clear with Excellent Hips, Normal Elbows, current CERF

Friar Tucker of Sauk River

Tucker is owned by Nami and Doc Erickson. He was born in 2009, and is a grandson to our Morgan’s Point Strawberry Queen and Doc Erickson’s Casey out of Bearpoint Kennel. He has all of his health clearances. To date (2016) he and Nami have acquired almost 1000 HRC points. Here are some pictures of Tucker. The Black and White one was published in the Hunting Retriever magazine. Getting an “Upland Hunter” pass at 9 months of age is very rare, as the rules say that a dog must exhibit a Finished (Master) level of control. He attained his HR (Hunting Retriever) title at 12.5 months — His UH (Upland Hunter) title at 14 months — His HRCH (Hunting Retriever Champion) title at age 3. At age 2, he placed 3rd in the state of WA in the pointing division of Bird Dog Challenge. From September 1 through the end of January, he hunts : Grouse, Doves, Rabbits, Pheasants, Quail, Ducks and Geese. He averages about 200 retrieves each year. Tucker is extremely smart, athletic and Good looking! He is the apple of Nami’s eye and produces phenomenal puppies!

Turkey Creek's Dunn Fowled Out--"Goose"

Goose is reflective of his wonderful owners Brad and Sandy Brockhouse from South Dakota, they are the “real deal”! The description below is from their webpage for Goose:
“Goose is a stunning, gorgeous red 70 pound blocky male with classic lab conformation! His sire is 1 1/2 time GMPR Elcanan Jumpin’ Jake SH (FC Pin Oaks Texas Rex X FC AFC Crow Rivers Malarky’s Cougar daughter). His dam is GMPR Bearpoint’s Sage Well Dunn (2 time GMPR HRCH Black Forest Bear Grits MH X CP Lady Catherine Wagging Light – Daughter of GMPR Riks Risky Raider MH X GMPR Elcanan’s Angel of HNTR’S PT MH). We finally have the “YELLOW” male we’ve been waiting for. Many came and went through our kennel but GOOSE stayed!! He has matured from a pup that refused to be left at home when we loaded up the dogs to go pheasant hunting to a bird crazy outstanding specimen of a Pointing Lab. One word describes Goose…DESIRE!!! Yet he’s an absolute gentleman and joy to be with. This dog will play the games at any level!!! Complete natural class with a NEVER QUIT ATTITUDE…he’s the real deal!!”
